New synthetic methods — Reaction mechanisms — Medicinal chemistry
Welcome to the website of the Nitro Research Group at Zelinsky Institute of Organic Chemistry in Moscow! We are interested in developing the synthetic methods that employ the versatile reactivity of nitro compounds and their derivatives — nitrosoalkenes and nitronates. We use these methodologies for the synthesis of biologically active compounds, novel ligands and molecules with unusual structures.
What we do
Please check out our Research and Publications sections for more details!
  • New synthetic methods
Our group has a longstanding interest in developing the synthetic methodology based on the versatile reactivity of nitro compounds and their derivatives. Our key advances in this area are related to the exploration of the synthetic value of nitrosoalkenes, fluorinated nitroalkenes and cyclic nitronates.
  • Reaction mechanisms
We are deeply interested in exploring the mechanisms of our reactions, using state-of-the-art techniques and equipment. The instrumental methods, such as in situ IR and UV-vis monitoring and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy, allow us to observe the course of the reaction in direct way. We also employ advanced computational methods in order to thoroughly investigate the reaction mechanisms.
  • Medicinal chemistry
We apply the developed methodology for concise total synthesis of medically relevant compounds. The synthesis is supported by computational chemistry methods, such as molecular docking and DFT.
